Punjab Transfers 8 Patiala Villages to Mohali to Boost Land Valu

In a move aimed at capitalizing on soaring real estate prices in Mohali and nearby areas, the Punjab government has officially transferred eight villages from the Rajpura sub-division of Patiala district to Banur Sub-Tehsil in SAS Nagar (Mohali) district. The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management on May 20.

The villages now part of SAS Nagar include Manakpur (HB No. 272), Khera Gajju (HB No. 269), Urna (HB No. 2), Changera (HB No. 243), Ucha Khera (HB No. 271), Gurditpura (HB No. 268), Hadayatpura (HB No. 270), and Lehlan (HB No. 267).

According to the notification signed by Anurag Verma, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner (Revenue), the transfer has been executed under Section 5 of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887, and Section 5 of the Registration Act, 1908, along with other enabling powers. The Governor of Punjab has approved the transfer.

Officials from the Patiala district administration confirmed the development, citing that property values in the newly transferred villages were lagging due to administrative inefficiencies and distance from Rajpura’s bureaucratic offices. By bringing these villages under Mohali’s jurisdiction, the government aims to simplify land transactions and increase property rates.

The jurisdictional shift takes immediate effect from the date of publication in the official gazette.
