Commuters travelling across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states are set to benefit from improved road connectivity, as the much-awaited cloverleaf interchange linking the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) with the Yamuna Expressway is expected to become operational by October 15. The new interchange will provide a seamless route to the upcoming Noida International Airport, significantly reducing travel distance and commuting time.
Being developed near Jaganpur-Afzalpur village in Greater Noida, around 2 km from Galgotias University and nearly 10 km from Pari Chowk, the project will establish the first direct connection between the two major expressways. At present, commuters travelling from the EPE are required to exit at the Sirsa interchange before joining the Yamuna Expressway through local roads.
Once operational, the interchange is expected to reduce travel distance by nearly 15–20 kilometres, saving commuters approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on their starting point. Travellers from Meerut could save up to half an hour, while commuters from Palwal, Kundli, and Panipat are also expected to experience shorter and smoother journeys. The project will also improve connectivity to YEIDA sectors and provide easier access towards Agra and Mathura.
Designed with four loops and four connecting ramps, the cloverleaf interchange will enable vehicles to move seamlessly between the two expressways without major speed reductions. Authorities believe the new design will improve traffic flow and help reduce congestion at key bottlenecks, including Pari Chowk, Kasna, and Ghangola village.
Officials stated that nearly 75 percent of the construction work has already been completed. The remaining work includes road surfacing, retaining walls, crash barriers, lane markings, traffic signboards, street lighting, landscaping and other safety-related infrastructure.
The project, spread across 83 hectares, has faced multiple delays due to land acquisition challenges, farmers’ protests over compensation, design modifications and rising construction costs. The foundation stone was laid on December 15, 2023, with an initial estimated cost of ₹75.5 crore. However, design revisions and increased construction expenses raised the project cost to ₹123 crore, while subsequent disputes over additional earthwork costs further delayed execution.
Following the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet’s approval to transfer the project to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), construction resumed after enhanced compensation was approved for affected farmers. The project’s revised cost has now reached approximately ₹270 crore.
Currently, Noida International Airport is connected to the Yamuna Expressway through a seven-kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link road. The remaining section passing through Haryana is expected to be completed next year, further strengthening regional connectivity.
