In a major breakthrough, Maqboolpura Police have busted a honey trap and extortion racket operating in Amritsar, arresting 12 individuals, including four women and a man impersonating a police officer. The group allegedly blackmailed victims after trapping them in compromising situations and extorted large sums of money.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Jasroop Kaur Bath, the gang was exposed after a victim, Jaspal Singh alias Jani Singh from Sri Hargobindpur (now residing in Tanda, Hoshiarpur), approached the police with a detailed complaint of blackmail and extortion.
Singh reported that a woman had contacted him under the pretext of needing legal help. After continued communication, she lured him to a location near Nexus Mall in Amritsar. From there, he was taken to a house near Josan Hospital in Maqboolpura, where he was forcibly confined by multiple men and women.
One of the accused, dressed in a police uniform and identifying himself as ASI Sukhchain Singh, allegedly assaulted Singh and stripped him. The woman also disrobed, and another gang member recorded compromising videos of the victim. He was then blackmailed and threatened with a false FIR and public exposure via social media unless he paid Rs 4 lakh.
The victim was forced to pay Rs 63,000 on the spot and sign a written confession to pay the remaining Rs 3.55 lakh within two days. However, suspecting foul play, he investigated the gang’s background and found that the so-called police officer was an impostor. He then filed a formal complaint.

-
Sukhchain Singh and Manjit Singh of Batala
